HOLYOKE, Mass. (WGGB) — The flash of Super Bowl XLVIII with a dash of Holyoke. For nearly a dozen years, the NFL has tapped the Hazen Paper Company to come up with an eye catching cover.
“We probably start working on it around November right before Thanksgiving. What we will do is create a number of holographic images with the graphics of the program on the cover and submit them to our customer H.O. Zimman and they will present them to the NFL and the NFL will pick one of six and go with it,” explains owner Bob Hazen.
Hazen’s team will then produce holographic images based on the final design chosen complete with dazzling takes on the iconic images of the Super Bowl.
Hazen says, “We took a new technology, a lens technology that we’ve developed, and incorporated it into the football at the top of the trophy and also in part of the trophy base as well…and we always wanted to be sure that they were able to highlight the cityscape of New York.”
Hazen Paper is so widely respected that they are entrusted to produce holographic images that become part of the pop culture.
From lottery tickets, to Beyoncé perfume packaging to top brand golf balls, but it’s their deal with the NFL that gets all the buzz this time of year.
Hazen adds, “Our team here at Hazen…our 250 employees, whether they are working in our Housatonic plant or in our Osgood, Ind. plant or here in Holyoke HQ…get very excited about it.”
Hazen’s big game holography will grace the covers of some 60,000 limited-edition Super Bowl programs.
“They are considered collectors pieces from the NFL…that’s part of their advertising piece.”
Bob Hazen says that the only thing that would make this year’s Super Bowl program better is it had the New England Patriots on the cover.
